“I screamed the house down when I saw the bat,” Sehr Rafique, 17, told the Daily Record on Monday about the decomposing bat in her cereal box. Kellogg’s said it is “taking this complaint seriously.”
A ‘terrified’ teenager has claimed she found a decomposing bat in a Rice Krispies box, putting her off the cereal for life.
Sehr Rafique, 17, told the Daily Record how she was freaked out when she discovered the dead winged creature as she poured out her cereal into a tupperware box.
“I screamed the house down when I saw the bat,” explained the Glasgow teenager, who is starting university later this year.
“I am scared of spiders as it is, so this terrified me. I have never seen a bat up close, never mind one which I almost ate.”
She added that she found the dead bat at the bottom of the box underneath the inner plastic bag containing the cereal.
“Everyone came running down the stairs when they heard me scream. I had never seen anything like it before.
“That bat was definitely dead but it has put me off eating Kellog’s ever again.
“All our family eat cereal for breakfast, but have been unable to do so after finding the bat.
“We have loads of boxes in the kitchen cupboard which now won’t ever get eaten.”
She told the newspaper that her father contacted Kellogg’s about the bat and were offered vouchers for a new box of cereal.
“It’s a bit of an insult to be offered another box of cereal when the complaint is about a box of cereal. Bats can carry all sorts of diseases. It’s not the sort of thing you expect to find in food ,” she said.
A Kellogg’s spokesperson told the Record: “Kellogg’s adheres to very strict food safety rules that ensure our products are of the highest quality.
“We are taking this complaint seriously and have been in constant contact with Ms Rafique.”
