A 19-year-old mother has been charged with murder over the death of her two-year-old daughter.
Cody-Anne Jackson is accused of killing toddler Macey Hogan, who was found dead at a home on Monday.
Mystery still surrounds the little girl’s death as Staffordshire Police said a post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday showed no clear cause.
Further investigations will take place in an attempt to establish the cause of the young girl’s death , said police.
Jackson, from Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, was scheduled to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Thursday morning.
Macey’s father, Paul Hogan, has paid a tribute to the girl online.
He wrote on Facebook: “R.I.P MY ANGEL I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MY MACEY-MOO.
“17.3.14 to 10.10.16
“Anyone who thinks I could have anything to with this clearly do not know me I loved my daughter soo soo much nd [sic] I have had the worst time of my life the past 24 hours please if anyone has any questions ask me.
“DO NOT ASSUME !!!!!!! Love you angel fly high sleep tight.”
The case has drawn immense interest and police have asked the public not to speculate about the girl’s death on social media.
DI Dan Ison, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “I urge members of the public not to comment or speculate about this on social media and to remember that a little girl has tragically lost her life.”
He added: “Our thoughts are with the little girl’s family at this time.
“This is a very distressing incident and we are doing all we can to support those affected.”
Police launched a murder investigation after Hogan was found dead at an address on Packett Street in Fenton.
Jackson’s grandmother Mary Garwood described Macey as a “gorgeous” little girl who was always smiling and happy.
Being comforted by her daughter, Donna Garwood, at her home in Tunstall, Staffordshire, she said: “We just can’t believe it.
“We only found out (Wednesday) afternoon, we still don’t know what happened.
“Macey was such a gorgeous child.
