This is the moment SNP MP Mhairi Black appeared to tell a Tory minister: ‘You talk sh**e, hen’ after blasting her about cuts to housing benefit.
In footage of a parliamentary session in the Commons yesterday, Miss Black, 22, can be heard criticising the proposed withdrawal of housing benefit for 18-21-year-olds.
Conservative MP Caroline Nokes replies by saying the Scottish government already has a wide range of powers which would allow them to alleviate the changes proposed.
In the background Miss Black can be seen scornfully mouthing disapproval, leading Twitter users to speculate that she used some rather unparliamentary language.
Katie McGarvery wrote: ‘Not much of a lip-reader but definitely mouthing, “you talk s***e, hen”.’
Another user called @Scottishlass said: ‘Lip reader here, it’s ‘dinnae talk s**** hen”.’
Paul Robertson added: ‘It’s certainly not “I do believe you’re telling some fibs minister””.
While user Scotticus wrote: ‘It does look like it. I think it’s, “That’s not right, hen” or “That’s not right then”. I prefer your version.’
At the start of the clip, Miss Black says: ‘The Scottish Government cannot reverse the cuts, or provide an exemption for Scotland.
‘Does the minister agree that it is simply ridiculous that young people should suffer purely because this government is obsessed with imposing austerity?’
Miss Nokes hits back by saying: ‘The Scottish Government already has a wide range of powers which would enable them to alleviate the changes being proposed here.’
But as she begins her next sentence the camera cuts to Miss Black, who is shaking her head and mouthing the sentence Twitter users are speculating about.
Miss Black is the current Baby of the House as the youngest member in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom.
When elected in May 2015, she was just 20 years and 237 days old. At the time of her election in 2015, Miss Black’s social media hit the headlines for containing a range of expletive laden tweets.
Examples included: ‘Smirnoff Ice is the drink of gods – I cannae handle this c* man!’
Another read: ‘Started with a few wkd’s at hannah’s and now i’m watching channel 4OD*. what the f****** happened to my night.’
