TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – An elderly female patient and a female employee of the Parrish Medical Center were killed around 2 a.m. EDT Sunday, police said. The suspect was arrested at the facility.
Two women are dead after a shooting on the third floor of Parrish Medical Center in Titusville early Sunday morning.
According to Cpl. Dave Jacobs with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, police say the suspect in the shooting is in custody.
Police haven’t released any other information about the suspects or victims at this time.
Jacobs said that security was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived
He also termed it an “isolated incident” with the motives for the incident unclear as of yet.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m., according to FLORIDA TODAY newspartner Local 6.
“It appears to be extremely random,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey before adding that the investigation is in the preliminary stages.
Titusville Police Chief John Lau credited two hospital security guards for responding quickly to apprehend the gunman, saying their actions saved lives.
It’s not known how the gunman entered the hospital or what type of gun he used.
The hospital, which was cleared by authorities, is open and taking patients.
Parrish Medical Center said it is mourning the loss of its employee and the patient.
