Infant Found in Car After Suspected Murder-Suicide Involving Parents in Accomack County, Virginia

ACCOMACK COUNTY, VIRGINIA – Elizabeth Madison Ann Jensen and Jonan Fabricio Gonzales-Funes were found dead Saturday, officials said. Gonzales-Funes is believed to be the shooter, officials said. The child was found unharmed.

The investigation of an apparent murder-suicide involving a Accomack County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer is underway in Accomack County.

On July 16, deputies from the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, along with Virginia State Police, responded to the end of Pierce Taylor Road near Mappsville for a report of two people in a vehicle that were believed to be dead, with an infant in the backseat.

Authorities found two adults that were confirmed to be dead from apparent gunshot wounds and the infant was evaluated and determined to be in good health.

The adults were identified as 20-year-old Elizabeth Madison Ann Jensen of Sanford and 27-year-old Jonan Fabricio Gonzales-Funes of Bloxom.

The infant was identified as their child. Custody of the baby was turned over to other family members.

Police say Gonzales-Funes was employed as a correctional officer in Accomack County since September 2015.

The deaths are believed to be the result of a murder-suicide with Gonzales-Funes as the suspect. However, the investigation remains ongoing and laboratory and autopsy results are pending.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at 757-787-1131.
