CANTON, OHIO – A trooper discovered a van with multiple bullet holes and blood inside in Canton, Ohio, Wednesday, officials said. The victim was shot in the hand and grazed on the head, Fox 8 reported.
A portion of Interstate 77 southbound in Canton has reopened after a shooting investigation.
The interstate was closed at 13th Street N.W. for several hours Wednesday morning.
According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 3:43 a.m.
A trooper with the Canton post stopped with a 2005 Kia mini-van on Interstate 77 southbound near mile post 106 in the city of Canton. When the trooper approached the van, it was determined it was abandoned and had multiple bullet holes and blood inside.
The initial investigation reveals that the victim was fired upon while driving on Interstate 77 and fled on foot from the van to a nearby residence for help after being shot in the hand and grazed on the back of the head.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident is still under investigation.
