The 33-year-old John Bernecker had been fighting for his life on a ventilator having been airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center on Wednesday, reports TMZ.
He died on Thursday night.
It was reported that Bernecker was breathing and conscious after the fall.
The man on the phone, in the emergency services call, confirmed that ‘his neck is in the position where he landed’.
AMC have reportedly shut down production on the show now which stars Andrew Lincoln and follows world events in the aftermath of a zombie attack.
TMZ obtained the 911 call which also revealed that Bernecker was airlifted to hospital on the advice of the on-set medic.
The publication revealed that that his girlfriend, who also works in the stunt department, is by his side.
‘John deserves to be seen by every neurosurgeon and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us,’ she wrote on Facebook.
‘THIS ISNT FAIR.’
As well as his notable work on The Walking Dead, Bernecker was also known for his work on Logan and The Black Panther.
‘We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set,’ AMC said in a statement following his accident.
‘He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.’
The tragic incident is being investigated.
