She’s one of the favourites to win the current series of long-running endurance show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
But while Scarlett Moffatt has been a hit with fans since entering the Australian jungle, she has revealed she has an ongoing battle with facial paralysis.
The popular Gogglebox star, 25, was struck down with Bell’s palsy – a condition that causes partial paralysis on one side of the face – following a car accident when she was 11.
Scarlett, a keen ballroom dancer in her youth, previously reflected on the moment she was first struck with the condition in her autobiography, Scarlett Says.
‘I was doing a performance for my mum and dad – I used to put on little shows for them – when all of a sudden, my mouth just drooped and I remember standing in front of the mirror and just screaming,” she recalled.
‘My eye dropped, I couldn’t speak properly, I got all slurred, and my mum and dad thought I was putting it on.
‘I was screaming so loud to try to get my mouth to go straight. I burst into tears and then they realised. It was awful.’
She added: ‘I can’t close my left eye properly. I have to sleep with a little eye mask and my mouth still goes to the side when I talk, although people don’t really notice.
‘Sometimes if I’m tired, my left eye feels a little bit twitchy, but I don’t get pain or slur my words. I don’t feel sorry for myself, as there are so many worse afflictions people can get.’
The TV personality was exempt from Wednesday evening’s Great Ascent trial, successfully undertaken by fellow contestant Joel Dommett – prompting speculation that her exclusion from the task related to her condition.
She did however participate in the show’s notorious eating challenge alongside Carol Vorderman.
MailOnline has contacted Scarlett’s representatives for further comment.
