Traditionally, it would have been romantic to say that he knew she was “The One” from the moment they met.
But Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he realised he wanted to spend his life with Blake Lively when they first had sex.
Despite simultaneously hinting that they may have slept together on their first date, the actor gushed about his ‘idiotic Hallmark-card cliche’ romance with the beauty, in his new interview with GQ magazine.
On starting a family, Ryan said: ‘I mean, I always imagined that would happen, and then it happened. Every idiotic Hallmark-card cliche is true.’
Asked when he knew Blake was “The One” to make it happen, he quipped, ‘Probably after the sex’ before telling the story of their first date.
Ryan explained that he asked the actress to dance in an empty restaurant, on a really late evening in Tribeca and knew instantly.
He said: ‘It was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, “Oh, I think I just crossed a line.”
‘And then I walked her home. And, uh, you know, I don’t really need to go into what happened after that.’
Speaking about the same date to Entertainment Weekly in February, Blake said: ‘[That date] went well for him. I don’t know about fireworks for me.
‘No, we were such good friends for so long and we both got to know each other as friends so when we were both single, we were still trying to find each other’s [perfect date]—”Oh, who would be good for you?”
‘We’d sit around being like, “Oh jeez, do you know anyone?” And it didn’t click for, I mean, a good year and a half. Like, “Oh hey, wait, hold on. We could date!”‘
Ryan and Blake famously worked together on Green Latern in 2010, while he was still married to Scarlett Johansson and she is dating Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley.
He played Hal Jordan and she played as Carol Ferris.
The actor divorced Scarlett in December 2010 after two years of marriage and was previously engaged to Alanis Morissette.
Now, Blake and Ryan have been together for four years, and they married in September 2012 in South Carolina.
The couple welcomed daughter James in December 2014 and their second child in September, which the Deadpool star hinted at being another girl, last month.
In October, Blake and Ryan appeared to return to the restaurant where they shared that memorable dance.
Celebrating Ryan’s 40th birthday at O Ya in a New York restaurant, Blake paid tribute to her husband.
‘We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston,’ Blake wrote. ‘We stay in love at your restaurant in NY. Thank you for the BEST food and memories!
‘You are our FAVORITE!! Another happy birthday with @vancityreynolds . Hey, Reynolds, I like you a whole lot. Just sayin’…,’ she added.
