Warner Bros. is reportedly considering six actors for the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Corps according to The Wrap – including Ryan Reynolds, who portrayed the character in 2011’s ill-received Green Lantern solo film.
Also reportedly on the list are: Bradley Cooper, who voices Rocket Raccoon in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films; Jake Gyllenhaal, who was cast as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2 before Tobey Maguire returned to the role after recovering from an injury; Armie Hammer, who was cast as Batman in WB’s scrapped Justice League: Mortal and who headlined The Lone Ranger; Joel McHale of Community fame; and Tom Cruise, who recently said he was not considering any superhero roles.
Reynolds has since risen back to prominence in the role of Deadpool, with a sequel to his blockbuster solo movie in pre-production. Fans have been split over whether Reynolds should return to the role of Hal Jordan, though it wouldn’t be the craziest thing Warner Bros. could do.
As for the rest, most of them have long been on the radar of both Marvel Studios and Warner Bros., with Cruise – one of the most bankable stars in the world – surfacing in consideration for numerous comic book roles. According to the report, DC and Warner Bros. have yet to approach any of the actors about the role.
Green Lantern Corps was announced with a July 24, 2020 release date, though some of DC’s planned film dates seem to be in flux.
