He is a rising star who’s enjoying success on a major US sitcom. But Modern Family star Rico Rodriguez’s personal life was hit by devastating loss, this week, after the death of his father.
The 18 year old, who plays Manny Delgado in the ABC show, shared a heartfelt message via Twitter on Sunday which announced the news to his 370,000 followers.
Posting a sweet image of them both together, he captioned the picture: “This has been the toughest week of my life. I’m gonna miss ur advice, hugs, smile, and laugh. I’ll love you forever daddy – Your youngest”.

Naturally, people were quick to respond and offer their sympathies. Moved by the post, Rico’s co-star Sofia Vergara, shared a message which simply read: “I love you”.
Another replied, saying: “May God bless your family in this time. What a great dad you’ve been blessed to have,” while a third added: “Keep his memories close to your heart. You are in my thoughts and prayers”.
Even The Artisan Group, a media PR company based in LA, said: “So very sorry to hear about Roy’s passing. We loved chatting w/ him at events. Much love to your whole familia.”
Rico then shared the same image on Instagram with a longer message, saying: “My Dad was the most kind hearted, loving, hard working, determined, and funny man I have ever known.
“He was like a super hero, he had the ability to get the best out of you day in and day out.”
According to an obituary, Roy – who was buried in Texas on Saturday – “made it a priority to thank God for the good things he had in life, ensuring that his children appreciated Him, as well.
“In essence, Roy laughed and loved his way through life, making the most of each moment he was given.”
He is survived by his wife, mother and Rico’s siblings Raini, Ray and Roy Jnr, plus ten grandchildren.
