She adopted him as a baby from Malawi in 2006.
On Friday Madonna shared a snap of her 11-year-old son David Banda looking very grown up in robes from his homeland in southeastern Africa, as he stood beside a photo of his biological parents.
And the 58-year-old pop superstar captioned it: ‘Be proud of who you are and where you come from.’
The lad is wearing a wrap with a green background and dark brown and white patterns cloaked around his body and tied behind his back.
One shoulder and arm are exposed while the other shoulder and arm are completely covered up.
David is standing in front of a framed map of the world, an appropriate setting for one who has traveled so far.
Four of Madonna’s six children are adopted from Malawi.
Aside from David, whom she welcomed when she was married to British director Guy Ritchie, she also brought over Mercy James, now 11, in 2009.
And she expanded her family even more when she adopted four-year-old twins Esther and Stella Mwale in February.
She also has a biological daughter, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, now 20, with her then trainer and boyfriend Carlos Leon, and a son, Rocco Ritchie, 16, with ex-husband Ritchie.
Madonna has posted many snaps of her twins on social media in the last few months, and they appear to be settling down well in their new home in New York.
