The star, 53, has revealed he’s gone into therapy in an open new interview, before admitting his split from the Hollywood actress was “self-inflicted”.
The star posed for three smouldering GQ covers in his first photoshoot since splitting from Angelina.
“I was boozing too much,” he told the mag. “It’s just become a problem. And I’m really happy it’s been half a year now, which is bittersweet, but I’ve got my feelings in my fingertips again.”
He added: “Truthfully I could drink a Russian under the table with his own vodka. I was a professional. I was good.”
When asked how he simply stopped drinking, the Allied star said: “Don’t want to live that way anymore.”
Brad Pitt split from Angelina in August 2016 amid allegations he had been involved in an altercation with their son Maddox, 15, on a private jet.
The case was later closed with no charges.
Now the actor has given up alcohol completely, and speaking about the split, he said: “(The split was) self-inficted… If you love someone, set them free. Now I know what it means, by feeling it.
“It means to love without ownership. It means expecting nothing in return. It doesn’t mean f*** all to me until, you know. Until you live it.’
Brad Pitt looked completely different in the three close-up shots for the shoot.
One sees him stood with a blurred sky behind him wearing an open white shirt and a chain around his neck.
The title of the issue reads: “Brad Pitt in America’s National Parks”.
Another shows him in an orange Hawaiian shirt, while he later swaps to a pink jumper and poses with sand smeared across one of his cheeks.
The star first shocked fans with his recent weight loss at The Lost City of Z premiere last month.
The Hollywood hunk looked noticeably thinner as he walked the red carpet in trousers which appeared too big for him.
Brad Pitt wore a white shirt over black trousers for the screening of the new movie in LA, but his clothes seemed to hang on his gaunt-looking frame.
The superstar has had a tough time in recent months after splitting from wife Angelina Jolie and becoming caught up in a bitter battle for custody of the couple’s six kids.
However, People.com reports that Brad Pitt’s weight loss is not stress-related and he has just been working out.
The insider said the actor has been hitting the gym “almost daily” and had “lost a few pounds, he’s in very good shape”.
Another source told the publication: “He’s healthy and much happier.
“Things with his family have improved, all is being addressed privately, and it’s serving everyone in the family well.”
Brad Pitt split from his Tomb Raider star wife in September after a 12-year relationship last October.
While the initial split was messy, it’s believed their divorce is now playing out behind closed doors as the pair work with a private lawyer.
Their large brood which includes Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, ten and twins Vivienne and Knox, eight, were caught in the middle but The Sun exclusively revealed that Brad Pitt is hoping to be granted joint custody of their children.
